Awoken (The Lucidites #1)
by Sarah Noffke
312 pages

Summary:
Around the world humans are hallucinating after sleepless nights.

In a sterile, underground institute the forecasters keep reporting the same events.

And in the backwoods of Texas, a sixteen-year-old girl is about to be caught up in a fierce, ethereal battle.

Meet Roya Stark. She drowns every night in her dreams, spends her hours reading classic literature to avoid her family’s ridicule, and is prone to premonitions—which are becoming more frequent. And now her dreams are filled with strangers offering to reveal what she has always wanted to know: Who is she? That’s the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out. But will Roya live to regret learning the truth?

My Review:
I went into this book not expecting anything specific. I have mixed feelings about this book. One minute I'm in to it the next I'm bored. There were just times when there weren't enough action for me. I do like the concept of dream travel. I think another reason why the book had a slower pace at times is because it is the first book in a series so there is a some world building to do. Most books that involve world building have slower paces because of the explaining and reasoning that needs to go on.

I like hearing people's dreams. Dreams are like a window into a person. Fears and desires act themselves out in our dreams. As a child I used to have nightmares all the time. So much so that I learned how to change my dreams while still dreaming. A very handy skill if I do say so myself. So to have a villain create nightmares and steal energy grab my attention. Zhuang is like a Freddy Kruger. Instead of killing someone straight out he does something much more torturous. Creating a slow death for sleepwalkers.

It is quite the story. I am interesting in reading book two but I admit that it's not high on my list of must reads.
